Poetry is one of the major building blocks of the Iranian culture. Renowned classical Iranian poets like Hafez, Sa’di, Molana Rumi (Molavi), Ferdosi , and their contemporary counterparts such as Nima, Forough, Shamloo, Akhavan-e Saales, and Sepehri are well known not only in Iran but in many countries around the world. Iranian people are well known in knowing so many poems from classical and contemporary Iranian poets by heart and reciting them in different occasions of life. Currently, Iranian Association of Boston hosts a poetry and music night every few months at its cultural center, Khaneh-ye Iran. A combination of recitation of poetry and traditional Iranian music segments (prepared and performed by Hafez Music Ensemble) makes this event enjoyable for different age groups of both Iranians and non-Iranians. Audience has a large role on these nights, they interact with the performers and take part in poetry parts and also volunteer to perform or sing with the music ensemble.
